Suffolk One is running the AQA Baccalaureate (AQA Bacc)

The AQA Bacc is a recognised qualification that helps students to gain the suite of qualifications, skills and qualities that universities and employers want. It asks students to pursue subjects, interests and activities that give them independence. It promotes responsibility and engages them with study, with their school community and with the wider community. The 4 key elements to the AQA Bacc are:

Depth of study - Students must study at least 3 A levels and achieve grade E or above on all; the grades achieved at A level will contribute to the level at which the Bacc is awarded; Pass, Merit or Distinction. There is complete flexibility of choice of A level; with the exception of Critical Thinking, General Studies or Citizenship, which count as a Breadth subject.

Breadth of study - Critical Thinking, General Studies or Citizenship to AS level to be achieved at Grade E or above although the grade achieved does not impact on the level of the AQA Bacc awarded.

Extended Project - Completion of the Extended Project will be graded on an A* - E scale and the Extended Project will contribute to the level of Bacc awarded.

Enrichment Activities - Students cover a variety of activities involving at least 100 hours over one or two year programme. At least two of the following three core areas must be included, with a minimum of 30 hours spent on any one area.

  • Work-related learning
  • Community participation
  • Personal development activities

Foundation Learning at Suffolk One.

Building a more confident future

Our Foundation Learning offers personalised programmes for students who are working at Entry level and Level 1. You can study for these qualifications at One, full-time or part-time, in partnership with your school (14-16).

Foundation Learning is a new qualifications framework devised and developed by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). It forms part of the 14 - 19 strategy.

Courses are tailor-made and are known as Progression Pathways - they have four main components:

  • Vocational knowledge, skills and understandingYou can experience a range of vocational contexts relating to specific occupations; develop personal and social skills for your working life; develop employability skills and job specific skills (level 1 and above).

  • Subject based qualifications. You'll develop skills as well as knowledge; develop understanding of the subject to allow further progression; develop research skills; all with a practical emphasis.

  • Functional Skills. This means you'll gain practical skills in English, Maths and ICT to help develop independence.

  • Personal and social development. You'll become a successful learner, a confident individual and responsible citizen. We help you to identify your strengths, areas for development and learning goals. Through this, any barriers to learning are identified and unblocked.

Individualised courses will be accredited through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). This framework recognises the achievement of units of work based on a system of credit accumulation. Students are awarded credits for the completion of units.

This framework ensures that all achievements can be recognised. Through Foundation Learning students can go on to achieve Award, Certificate or Diploma level qualifications.
